Home Improvement Projects To Avoid During COVID-19

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, people are spending more time at home—and many of them are using that time to tackle home improvement projects.

And while DIY projects are a productive way to spend your time at home, there are a few projects that you’ll want to shelve until after the pandemic is over.

recent article from realtor.com outlined the home improvement projects homeowners shouldn’t tackle in the midst of COVID-19, including:

  • Any projects that require personal protective equipment (PPE). It’s imperative to reserve PPE for hospitals, healthcare providers, and front line workers—so skip any projects that would require you to wear a mask or other PPE.
  • Any projects that require outside help. Now is not the time to be inviting a large number of contractors or workers into your home (and, in many states, it’s actually against COVID-19 guidelines). Make sure any home improvement projects you tackle right now are projects you can manage yourself.
  • Noisy projects. If a DIY project is extremely noisy, it could bother your neighbors, who may be working from home or managing distance learning for their children. Save noisier projects for after the pandemic, when people are back at work and school.

The Takeaway:

So, what does that mean for you? If you want to use your time at home to tackle home improvement projects, have at it—just make sure you’re working on the right types of DIY projects.
